Home Educator Workshop – The Big Weave – 11th March 2024

Come and weave with us in the Great Hall! Join a group of artist-makers in the creation of a vibrant new woven artwork inspired by the medieval Coventry Tapestry. No previous weaving experience needed – we will share a few simple skills and you will be weaving in no time! 

There is also expert help on hand with volunteers from The Weavers’ Workshop and Coventry Guild of Weavers, Spinners and Dyers to show you how to use weaving sticks and peg looms.

The facilitated part of this workshop lasts one hour, however you are more than welcome to explore the Guildhall before or after your booking slot, please be aware that opening hours are 10.00-16.00. 

All ages and abilities can take part. Don’t miss this chance to weave in your thread!
Under 4’s and one accompanying adult can attend for free but must be accompanying one full paying child ticket.

Explore the enchanting realm of Fairy Folk and Fearless Knights at St Mary’s Guildhall from March 23rd to April 7th, 2024, during the Easter school break! Delve into a magical experience featuring captivating fairy door scavenger hunts and knightly training*.

Immerse yourself in Tudor living history* with interactive activities, and uncover the stories of mischievous fairies. Children can also unleash their creativity by crafting fairy offerings using flowers and shells. Don’t miss out on this unforgettable spring adventure!

*Knight school and Tudor living history are available on selected dates.  

  • Living History will be held on Monday 25th March and Friday 29th March 2024. 
  • Knights School will be held on Tuesday 26th, Wednesday 27th and Thursday 28th 2024.

A Tale of Two Tapestries Groups Tour at St Mary’s Guildhall Coventry & Coventry Cathedral. July 8th,  16th September and   7th October 2024

A unique opportunity for groups to discover the rich history of two extraordinary tapestries, the largest tapestry in Europe located in Coventry Cathedral and the famous 500 year old Coventry tapestry, still in the place it was originally made for after 500 years.

Our expert guides will share the enchanting stories woven into the fabric of these two extraordinary tapestries, each with its own tale to tell. Marvel at the intricate craftsmanship and the vibrant colours that have stood the test of time.

Let the expansive design of this masterpiece transport you to a realm where art, spirituality, and history come together.

This exclusive tour seamlessly weaves together the narratives of St Mary’s Guildhall and Coventry Cathedral, offering you a dual experience of historical and modern splendour.

The combined tour experience is for groups of 10+ and anticipated to last approximately 1 hour and 15 minutes, with the additional opportunity to indulge in a cream tea featuring a freshly baked warm scone with jam, cream, and a pot of tea. in our atmospheric vaulted ceiling restaurant.

Sensory friendly sessions

Discover 700 years of power, partying and propaganda in a unique historical setting within Coventry’s Cathedral Quarter. In these dedicated time slots we will be offering a quieter visit, with sounds and noises turned down or off where possible and fewer people around.
