Wedding frequently asked questions
Whatever your wedding needs, we will work with you to make your wedding an exceptional and memorable event.
Planning your special day can be a complex and confusing process, and if you've got any questions about our venue, please get in touch with us or, better still, pop in for a chat.
To get started, below are answers to some of the most common questions we receive.
Can we just have a ceremony at your venue?
Of course. Whilst many couples prefer the convenience of having their ceremony, wedding breakfast and evening reception at St. Mary's Guildhall, we are more than happy to accept requests for a ceremony only in either of our three licensed rooms.
How do we arrange a ceremony?
First of all we would check the availability of your preferred date with our calendar. As the more popular summer weekend dates are often booked far in advance, it may be worth having a couple of alternative dates in mind.
We will then contact the Coventry Register Office for you, to confirm that a Registrar is available to perform the ceremony on your chosen date. Once confirmed, the Register Office will advise you of other steps in the process.
Can we just have the wedding breakfast and/or reception at your venue?
Yes, you are most welcome to book St. Mary's Guildhall for your wedding breakfast and/or evening reception only, having had your ceremony elsewhere.
If you are planning to have your ceremony in the nearby Coventry Register Office, or one of the city centre churches, then St. Mary's Guildhall is just a short walk away, and continues the historic theme of your chosen venues.
Can we use our own suppliers for our wedding at your venue?
Yes. We will be happy to share recommendations for suppliers of a wide range of wedding services, from florists and chauffeurs to musicians and toastmasters, but you are most welcome to arrange your own suppliers for weddings at St. Mary's Guildhall.
Please note that any recommendations we provide are purely based on our own experience, and feedback from previous customers. We do not direct our customers to 'approved suppliers' lists, which can sometimes be influenced by commission arrangements rather than service quality.
Can we bring our own food and drink?
It is not permitted to use your own catering and beverage supplier for events at St. Mary's Guildhall. Our in-house banqueting team offers full and varied food and beverage options, and will be happy to discuss your specific needs if you have particular favourites.
For specific faith events, we will be happy to discuss alternative catering arrangements with you.
Can we visit for a viewing?
Absolutely. We know you'll love St. Mary's Guildhall, but it's so important that it feels right for you and that you get the opportunity to meet us and ask those burning questions. Get in touch to arrange a convenient date and time, or come along to one of our occasional wedding fairs, details of which you'll find on our Special Events page.
